What to wear axe throwing

Before You Arrive

WHAT TO WEAR
AXE THROWING.

Short version: dress comfortable, wear closed-toe shoes. Here’s the longer version.

The Essentials

Three things to remember.

A Comfortable Shirt

A Comfortable Shirt

Make sure your shirt doesn't tighten or restrict when you raise both hands overhead. T-shirts are ideal, but any comfortable long-sleeved works too. You need full range of motion to throw well.

Tip Do the test: do an overhead throw motion at home. If the shirt pulls, switch to something looser.

Pants or Shorts

Pants or Shorts

Wear whatever is most comfortable for you. Jeans, joggers, shorts — all work. You'll be standing and moving for the full session, so pick something you can move in.

Tip There's no dress standard here. Just don't wear anything you'd be afraid to get wood dust on.

Closed-Toe Shoes

Closed-Toe Shoes

This is the one non-negotiable. Running shoes are ideal — you'll be on your feet and getting a bit of a workout. No sandals, no open-toe shoes, no heels.

Tip Sneakers or casual shoes work best. You'll be comfortable and safe.

A Few More Tips

What NOT to wear.

Skip the heels

Even if they're closed-toe. You'll risk injury and won't be able to throw properly. Flats, casual shoes, or runners are best.

Avoid fitted shirts

Anything that's tight or that may restrict your range of motion. You won't be able to get the full overhead throw needed to hit the bullseye.

Leave the jewelry at home

Rings, bracelets, and watches can interfere with your grip. Keep it simple.

Expect some wood dust

Small wood chips fly off the target when you throw. Don't wear your best outfit — dress like you're going to have fun.
